I am happy to say that I am a US citizen now. Had oath ceremony today at Chicago downtown. The oath went smoothly. The actual oath by the judge took 10 minutes but the seating and instructions reading took 90 minutes. 30 minutes before the reporting time, we were seperated, applicants and family members outside the door. Then we enter the court room, they collected the oath letter and green card. Then asked us to sit in an order, row by row. Once everybody was checked-in, family members were allowed inside. Then some instructions were given and also adviced on what to do after becoming citizen, like updating social security office, registering to vote and applying for passport. After that, the judge enters the room, administers the oath, made brief comments and left. Then we were handed the certificates, asked to verify the information on it and given the option to sign it in the hall or do it later at home. I did it after coming back home. I am going to apply for passport book & passport card tomorrow. After that, one more trip to social security office as soon as I get my naturalization certificate back from state department.
With this ends my 18 years of immigration journey. I thank everyone who gave advise, who gave company and who gave support during delays and everything. This forum is very useful. I will be here, giving advise from the experience I had from my journey. Good luck to everyone. Be patient but do not keep waiting forever if the case get stuck. Pursue all options available without irritating the agency.
