US Citizen (above 18) sponsoring Grandmother

When US Citizen (above 18) sponsors Grandmother, will there be a need for visa number or is it the same as applying for parents?

It is not possible to sponsor grandparents for a greencard.

Thanks! Is it not possible at all, or is it just that there is visa number required like for brothers/sisters/older children?
