In following case is there any advantage to applying before existing EAD expires?
My wife's EAD expires tomorrow. She is not working currently and has valid H4 for few more years.
She wants to accept Job offer and they want her to start as early as possible.
Company lawyer has already taken 15 days doing paperwork and yet to file it. Meantime I am banging my head against the wall because we could have filed on our own within a day

Lawyer now says that there is no advantage to filing it before expiration of first EAD. In both the cases it is going to take same time to process. Now she may be saying this to coverup delay on their part.

I am considering paper filing myself by tonight if there is any advantage to doing that.
Please help me decide !!!

You need to be a little clearer.
Did the company lawyer file for EAD or H1?
What are you considering paper fililng: EAD or H1?

Paper file is better than Electronic filing ...

If you do electronic filing again you need to go for Finger Printing ...

I am not using EAD's and so I filled 3 days before expiration date. They received one day before expiration date, but receipt date was after expiration date.. It got approved exactly after a month...

if the lawyer has already filed for EAD then you shouldn't file for the same.
you can file paper and do overnight so that they can get it by tomorrow.

when does your wife has to start work?

i thought paper based EAD got biometric appts too from USCIS?

"Is there any advantage to filing EAD renewal before expiration as far as processing time goes?"

That is the question.

Thanks for replying again but why do you always assume things that I havent said?
eg. My post doesn't even mention H1 and yet you are asking about H1 expiration. huh?
Then again I havent said that lawyer has filed .. in fact I am saying that He is NOT going to file before expiration. If lawyer had already filed it why would I worry about missing tomorrows expiration date?
I am considering filing on my own IFF there is any advantage in doing so.
And NO. I am not asking about advantages and disadvantages of paper vs efile. I didn't even mention paper or efile. Did I?

Now can you answer
"Is there any advantage to filing EAD renewal before expiration as far as processing time goes?"
instead of giving unwanted suggestions.

If you file after expiration and work, you must stop working until you get new EAD in hand. If you do not work - you are fine, but start date still has to be after you get renewed EAD. So if you do not work and in no hurry to start - you can file after expiration, new EAD will have later valid period if you file later (I am not sure this can be considered as advantage).

If you file before expiration - the question is, how much in advance. We normally filed 3.5 months in advance to get new EAD in time, before old one expires, to be able to continue working. In this case, we had an overlap for up to 3 months in case of fast approval, so we lost some money and had to renew EAD actially once in 8-9 months instead of once a year. However start date of renewed EAD depends on the place where it is issued (see my other posting).
