Hi,

Here's my friend's situation.

My friend is currently in India and she has got her GC approval and passport was stampped last year. Her I-551 stamp expires sometime soon. Her marriage is on the rocks. She was visiting India and because of family issues, she got stuck there. But, her husband is in the US.

Her questions are :
1. Can she travel to the US before her I-551 stamp expires?
2. Will she require a re-entry permit?
3. What questions can she anticipate at the POE?
4. If her husband is not with her, will it be a problem at the POE?
5. If at all, a divorce happens before and after she is in the US, what's her status?
6. What are the documents that she will need for travel other than her passport?

----- YES

NO, if she enters before her I-551 stamp expires, FYI one can apply for Reentry permit while you are IN US, it should be applied BEFORE you leave US and it takes time for approval (it was taking more than 6 months) and one can leave after sending the reentry application and Reentry permit can be picked up from US consulate that you mention on form I-131 when you apply for Reentry permit
3. What questions can she anticipate at the POE?
----- not much, like when did you left USA......
4. If her husband is not with her, will it be a problem at the POE?
---No Problem,
5. If at all, a divorce happens before and after she is in the US, what's her status?
------- No problem as she has GC, she should be back before Stamp expiry ( she should not stay out of US more than 1 year)
6. What are the documents that she will need for travel other than her passport?

----- passport with valid GC stamp , (if she has her I-485 approval or any expired EAD or expired AP she should keep it, but not needed)
**** where is her Green Card? as she got PP stamped they send Card in 3-5 months after Passport stamping??? where is her actual green card???
