Hi all,
I'm currently on OPT (complete course requirement for PHD but no
dissertation yet) but I was told when I applied for OPT that OPT will
protect my F1 status thus I didn't have to take any classes. However I
was told by my International Affairs to register for the summer
session when I was applying for OPT, saying that this way I'll be ok
while wait for my OPT to be approved. After that, I stopped
registering for classes.
While talking to my friend, we touched on the topic of practical
training and H-1. I checked a few sites and to my surprise they say
that OPT requires the holder to maintain his/her F-1 status.
Am I out of status? If I am, is there any recourse to get my F-1
status back?
Any advice will be great appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
