It's enough. I traveled to Canada a month ago.

I traveled early last year and GC is enough. Just check with Canadian websites if any rules have changed.

Thanks for your replies and answers

Yes, I agree a GC is enough. I called the canadian customs and border protection at 204-983-3500 and they said a green card is enough by land, which will be how I am getting there. As to Air I didn't ask. It would be helpful to know though.

By Air or Land, the only document you need to enter Canada and back to the U.S. is your Green Card. No passport or RTD needed.
If in addition, you have a RTD is ok too. But a GC is a must.

I have traveled to Canada by air with only my GC several times in the last few months. No problems at all in either side.

My experience is a little bit different. I know that a person can travel to Canada with just a GC and it was confirmed by the members of this board. But when I traveled to Canada I was asked for a passport or a travel document 3 times - first by the airline representative when checking in, second time by Canadian IO in Toronto, and finally on my way back by a US IO in Toronto Airport. Every time I just gave my GC first to see if it was enough. All of them asked for my pass. Now I don't know what would happened if I had said that I didn't have a pass. I assume I could still get around with just a GC.

Yes all you need to travel from the United States to Canada is your GC. A passport or RTD is not needed.

Been in Canada but still have a question for you gurus

Hi,

So I crossed the border twice but the 2nd time coming from Canada to the US the IO looked at my RTD and asked me why did I get one of these? (RTD) I didn't know what to answer him, what do you guys think might have been a good answer?

Thanks, Y.

Answer what is RTD for..."because I don't have a passport and cant get one from my country's embassy"

Thats what RTD is for. If someone asks you why you need RP...Answer would be same as above or if you are out of country for more than 6 months..

I usually dont show RP because unncessary confusions.

Do not show your RTD when it is not necessary to do so. It just raises questions.
