URGENT : Question about I94 failing to verify

My brother is on a student visa (J1). He came into the country on June 2nd. He went to the social security office to apply for his social security card and they told him that his they failed to verify his I94 number with the INS online.

Has anyone faced this problem before ? What are the consequences? Please respond immediately? Thanks.

There is absolutely no problem.
It happened to me as well. the INS online system is not up to date and his details will be manually be sent to the INS for verfication. At the most there will be a delay of 5 days.

Not a problem. Your brother might have got the SSN by now.
