urgent question about I-94 wrong date and H1 extension

My H1 status as shown in I-797 will be valid until April 15 2004. My company will file the H1 extension for me soon.

I came back from my home country to US on 12/28/2003. As usual, the immigration officer issued me my new I-94. However, I just found out that on this I-94, the office wrote "H1B.. valid until Feb 15 2004".

What does this mean? Did he make a mistake? Should he write "April 25 2004"?

Today is already Feb 5, and I am starting to panic. What should I do next? My company lawyer is out of office this week so I am really scared.

Should I ask the lawyer to file the extension as soon as possible? If it is filed before Feb 15, does it mean I will be safe? Or do I have to receive the receipt before eb 15?

Thank you so much for your input.

I-94 is most imp. yes the port of entry officer did a mistake .
There two ways to rectify this problem
1) Go back to the port of entry where you entered and show him the visa validity and ask him to correct It .
Or you have to file an immediate H1 extension before FEB 15 and you should get a receipt notice ..
other wise from FEB 15 you are going to be "OUTOF STATUS"
tAKE CARE with all these things ..

Can I go to a local INS office to correct the valid date of I-94? The port I entered was in California, but I am located in Maryland. So I definitely can not go there again.

Do I need to receive the receipt before Feb 15, or do I only need to send the application out before Feb 15?

Thank you very much.

you can file form I-102 to correct I-94 but it will take a long time.
you have only 2 options:

1 File the H1 extension ASAP it should reach USCIS office before your I-94 expires, you can do the H1 extension filing through other lawyer, many lawyer will take 1 day to prepare the forms and then get the signature from your employer 1-2days. File H1 extension before I-94 expiry date.
2 According to new info if mistake on I-94 by POE officer then it can be corrected at the SAME POE go to the same POE tomorrow and meet the Supervisor or any officer and get it corrected, inform them politely that my lawyer said that is seems to be mistake by POE officer and need to be corrected at same POE

** one of my friend had the same problem he was given wrong date on I-94 by Newark NJ POE and he went next day to Newark airport and officer corrected the I-94
