Make sure you get a letter of termination ( Pink Slip ) if they lay you off. Never resign yourself. If they are laying you off insist that they give you a layoff letter. That will keep you in the green as far as INS is concerned. If you are layed off, look for another job and don\'t worry. It is good that you did not come on bench before the stamping. If you resign, then INS can question your action of leaving immediately after stamping ( of course, AC21 may negate the ill-effects of that ).
As always consult with an attorney if required. The other aspect of insisting that you be given a termination letter is that the company may threaten to revoke your GC if you do so because the company will be in INS\'s bad books if it layed an employee off after the employee got the GC. I think AC21 makes it impossible for the employer to do that, but consult a good attorney on this issue before you do anything!!!.
