Hi Guys,

I posted my interview experience here: http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=307406

In a nutshell, I was approved for naturalization by the IO on Dec 15th and was given an oath letter for an Oath on Dec 21st. However, I was going to be out town on Dec 21st and returned the oath letter to the IO asking for a reschedule. The IO said that he would put me back in the system and reschedule my oath for a later date.

However, today (Dec 17th) I got the Oath letter in the mail for Dec 21st! Its the N445 letter but it does say "Applicant Copy" on it. Now I'm confused. Is my Oath going to be rescheduled or should I keep the Dec 21st appointment?? I will be calling USCIS tomorrow morning but please help if anyone has any advice!

Thanks

He did really put you back in the system! And the system did what it is designed to do.

Try calling or INFOPASS. It is unlikely the oath is going to be re-scheduled without any action on your part. Because if they give you oath letter after interview, they don't mail one ... so whatever scheduling / re-scheduling had to happen - already happened.

Cant you just take the oath on the 21st?? The timeframe is too short for you to be assured that your oath is rescheduled. You have to go back to the Officer that interviwed you and ask him to change it. DOnt go on any word the 1800 number says...SOmetimes you have to change your plans. I would change your vacation plan and get this over with.

I don't think that's the case. I just spoke to a friend who took his Oath last week. He received an Oath letter after the interview AND received an applicant copy in the mail two days later. He had two letters when he went to the Oath ceremony. This is my dilemma :(

Yes, I have decided that I will change my plans if it means my Oath is indeed on the 21st. But I'm not sure about that. When I got the Oath letter after the interview, I specifically returned the letter to the IO and asked him to reschedule me. To which he replied ok and said he'll put me back in the system. Now I have this Oath letter in the mail for the 21st. I could just show up on the 21st at the Oath ceremony but I have a feeling I'll not be in the list.

My friend who had his Oath ceremony had two letters. One which he got after the interview and one which he got in the mail two days after the interview which said Applicant Copy. He says that at the Oath ceremony, they specifically asked for the letter he got after the interview. So now I'm not sure what to do. I can't make an Infopass appointment...its too late... the earliest appointment they have is on the 22nd... a day after the supposed Oath ceremony. My only hope is to get some information by calling the 1-800 number. :(

Sorry I was not aware about the 2 letter business. Maybe it is getting re-scheduled.

However, be sure ... just call them and see what you can get from them.

No need to be sorry. You were trying to help. I'm calling the 1-800 number tomorrow... fingers crossed. If I don't get anything from them, I'm going to reschedule my damned trip and show up at the oath ceremony on the 21st. If I'm not on the list, I'm not and I'll just come back home. I just don't want a situation where I'm indeed on the list for the 21st and I don't show up.

Vorpal, Did they specifically ask you for the letter you got after the interview at the Oath ceremony?

Make an infopass and confirm if there is a new date assigned to you. The officer should be able to look at your file and mention if you are still scheduled for dec 21st or if it is moved or still to be moved. You may try to see if they give you this info by calling the field office or USCIS!

Chreerus mentioned that the earliest Infopass appt. available is on the 22nd, which would be too late.

Correct. I'm calling the Field office today and see what they have to say about my appointment. Worst case, I'm just going to show up for the Oath ceremony on the 21st.

In retrospect, I regret asking for a reschedule of my Oath. Hindsight is 20-20. I should've just kept the 21st date. Its all water under the bridge now. I had it under control until I decided to do this crazy rescheduling thing. Ok, I'll now get off my soap-box.

Thanks for the responses guys! I'll let you know what I find out.

Ok, I called the 1-800 number and to my surprise the customer rep was very nice and helpful. She said the latest information she has on my case was that I was scheduled for an interview! However, she said the system does not get frequent updates and this information might be old. She recognized that I have already passed my interview and been approved. So she transfered me to a second level officer who could help me further.

The second level officer was a lady as well and she was also very nice and extremely helpful. I gave her my story and she dug into my file. She informed me that the Oath ceremony notice for the 21st was sent before the IO put in a request for a reschedule. The IO had actually cancelled my 21st Oath ceremony and put me in for the 28th. Hence I should be getting two more letters in the mail. First one indicating that my 21st Oath has been cancelled and the second one an Oath notice for the 28th. She congratulated me once again and asked me to look for the letters in the mail over the next couple of days. She asked me not to cancel my trip and told me to show up at the Oath ceremony on the 28th of Dec :)

I was pleasently surprised that they were this helpful. I did make sure I was extremely nice to them though. I think it went a long way :)

I am, I really am trying...:o

Who would've thunk this can be so stressful!

Great! Please update us on if what the officer told you on the phone actually turns out to be true.

What the officer told me on the phone indeed did come true. On Dec 18th I got a letter canceling my Oath on Dec 21st. Then on Dec 21st, I got an Oath letter for Dec 28th. So the officer on the phone was spot on! I guess there are times when the 1-800 numbers are good for information.

I am glad that wrinkle has been ironed out for you...

Please keep us posted about your oath experience
