Urgent: Need to travel to india from usa

Hi,
I initially came to USA on a tourist visa and got my status changed to F1. I am currently studying in a university pursuing my MBA. I need to travel to India for a few weeks to attend my brother's wedding. This travel does not obstruct my school.

I have been informed at school that I would need to go to the USA embassy in India to get the visa. Please advice me whether my chances of getting the visa are high or would they reject me and stop me from coming back.

Also, if I dont go to the embassy for visa and come back on the tourist status does that stop me from studying here?

Please reply urgently as I need to make a decision within a week.

Regards,
nnnnn

make sure the school advisor sign the I-20 before you leave and get a certificate of attendance. This how it was done back in the days. I dont know now.

Either plan to try for visa stamping or do not go to the wedding. It is a violation of US law to enter on B2 status when you are in attendance at the university.

"Students, temporary workers, journalists and persons planning to travel to the U.S. for a purpose other than that permitted on a visitor visa, must apply for a different visa in the appropriate category."

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1265.html

Also, if you use the B2 to re-enter, your I-94 (that card you fill out on the plane) will have an expiration date that you must leave the U.S. by. It will NOT be D/S (Duration of Status). You will not be allowed to study while in the U.S.
