My last date was April 24. On 25th the company sent a letter to INS about the severance of my relation with the company. I got the copy of that letter on May 10th.

I need to know that if some other compnay is ready to sponsor (transfer) my H1, how much time we have to start that process so that my stay here doesn\'t become illegal.

I will appreciate any help from the Gurus, I am in contact with a company and they are trying for a face to face interview with a client pretty soon.

Thanks.

if you have filed your 485 your stay is legal

but if you have not filed your 485, your stay has been illegal
 since April 25th.

BTW, since you have said this

before, I don\'t understand the nature
of your problem. Are you playing a crank here ?

30 days from last date

IF you are on H1:

Within 30 days from your last day of employment you should have applied for the transfer of your H-1B visa. Otherwise, I believe, your status would become illegal. Supposedly INS has two conflicting rules, one saying that you have 10 days to apply and another 30 days. I know the 30 day rule cas I was in the same boat as you and I did get my H-1B visa (my RD was 20 days after my last date of employment).

Ofcourse I am no lawyer and dont know whether things have changed since then (1999).

I hope you get a job soon, good luck buddy!
