Hi All,

I have taken several trips outside the country for official business, Can anyone please share the format that i can give to HR to write a letter certifying that my trips were official ?

Appreciate any help.

Just put all the dates, country name and time (in days) of your trip outside usa with details about your itinerary and CONFIRMATION # and airline names .
You need to make it very simple and informative INSTEAD OF too much stuff. BE TO THE POINT.

I am in the same boat. I had about 30+ trips. Most are less than a week. I just put the same items on a spreadsheet. Did not get any letter from work regarding the nature of the trips. It was with several different employers. (My interview is still pending so my strategy might be flawed. Please make your own decision regarding this).

It depends on the situation. 40 weeks absence in 5 years is not a big deal especially if all of these are 1 week trips. But a pattern of trips counting up to 2 years might be a problem, and if you can justify them with employer's help - why not. [ BTW, I am not saying the OP has 2 years worth of trips. That's just an example. ]

A simple format will do. To whom it may concern ... or to the CIS. This is to confirm, on OP's behalf, that he/she undertook the following travels due to company business.

Why do you want your HR to certify the nature of your trips? Without an approved N-470, the business trips will have the same effect as personal trips for continuous residency determination.

Assuming you have adequate physical presence in the US to apply for Naturalization, and the trips aren't in a duration or pattern that may cause the IO to question whether you have stronger ties to another country....

You don't need a letter from HR. If you're concerned that you've spent a lot of time outside the US, attach copies of your pay stubs/direct deposit notices for the times you were out of the US and your tax return transcripts for the years in question. These two are better indicators of your employment (in support of continuous residence) in the US than a letter from your HR department.
