Actually i am working in for a company in the west coastand my wife is working in the east coast. My greencard processing is currently pending. My company is transferring a lot of the work to India development center and they are looking to reduce the number of employees here in the US. As a part of that they have announced a voluntary separation program in which employees can chose to volunatarily leave the company for which they will get a good financial package.

I want to find a job in the east coast where the job market is better than here and i can also stay together with my wife and am thinking that this is a good oppurtunity for me to move. The only problem is that it is remotely possible that there could be some obstacles to my green card processing if i decide to do so if i dont get a job soon.

So at this point i just need to make the decision whether i should take the voluntary termination package or not. I am thinking that it will be better if i take it, but if i do, i need to be able to find a job in the eastcoast without any obstacles.

Please advice me on how safe it is to take voluntary separation at this point where my Greencard is pending from almost one and a half year(RD jan6th 2002).
Also if I do not find a job immediately . How will it effect? Please let me know

By taking the voluntary package you are giving up the GC. Is that your intention? These decisions are personal. If you decide to abandon GC and leave US that is your personal choice,
what other options are there?

I have crossed 180 days after applying for my 485 , I can change jobs at this point with the AC21 rule right ? I am not abandoning my GC .
If I quit Voluntarily does that mean my GC will not be processed?
My questrion is Is there a difference between quitiing the job Voluntaily and being lay off .....

I see in the forum so many pple shifting jobs. How is that different from Quiting Voluntarily .
Please let me know .

Voluntary package gets us some benefits vs resigning ...This is employed by the company to reduce the headcount

I do not see a problem of resigning. Monetary benefits may not pose a problem.

Please note that this is just my opinion.
