I need urgent advice.
My Rd is 9th august 2001. It has not been approved as yet. Now i have been laid off by my company last week. I got a new job today.
My EAD expires at the end of the month. I applied for extension last month.
Today I called the INS and they mentioned it will still take about a month to get EAD approval and since last 2 months they say that my file has been assigned to an officer. but dont know why it is taking long.
However my husband had applied for his original EAD in july 2002 but to date he has not received his EAD and he got an interim EAD at the pittsburgh local office. And everytime we call on the status of his case it says they are waiting for some information. However they do not say what they need.
Question 1 - Should I ask help from a senator. Is it enough reason and time frame to contact a senator?
2. Is there any process to get the EAd faster - expediated
3. Any suggestions what todo with the job offer i need to tell the employers in tommorow if i am taking up the job

Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated

thanks

Hi,

You should be okay to take up the new job. Go to Pittsburgh and try to get a new interim EAD. Apply for a new one through Vermont as well.

you cannot get an interim EAd unless 90 days have passed since the receipt date of the EAd. so i cannot get that until december end. what happens once my ead expires on 30 november I will not be able to work.

Hi,

I don't know about your field office but Boston allows on the spot EAD renewal. I know of people who have done that. Check for your local office.

Good luck.

Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) (first time & renewals):
Applicants for employment authorization may come to the Customer Information Center (JFK Federal Building, Room E-160) to file their application, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. You will be issued a ticket during those times but please note that you may have to wait several hours until your ticket number is called. The Customer Information Center is closed on the third Friday of the month, all weekends and Federal holidays. Employment authorization documents are issued the same day in most cases. Please bring a completed INS Form I-765, money order, picture identification and evidence of employment eligibility at the time of filing.

I checked for Pittsburgh and it's silent about whether it will allow on the spot renewal. Have you gone in person? It's worth going ther with all your I485 docs (& copies of receipt) and pleading your case with them.

Good luck.

Upon submission of Form I-485, you may also file an Application for Employment Authorization (Form I-765). If your application for employment authorization is approved, you may receive your employment authorization document (EAD) the same day.

From the website for Pittsburgh office:

Employment Authorization Documents (EAD’s) (first time & renewals):
Submit INS Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, in person at: INS Pittsburgh, Federal Building, Room 314, 1000 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Wednesdays.

So I would say, get your docs and be there early for your renewal.
