My daughter was born in India and an Indian citizen. She is nine years old. Her passport expires by May 2007. I am working in USA in H1B Visa and my daughter is living here in H4(Dependent visa). I need to renew her Indian passport.
(1) At the time of sending her old passport for renewal to Indian consulate at New York should her passport need to have valid U.S. H4 visa stamping OR If she has valid H4 Visa Approval notice from US government to stay in U.S and valid I-94 card is fine?
(2) If an Indian passport for a born Indian is valid until May 31, 2007 and they are planning to go back to India in May 20,2007 will she be permitted to enter India. For born citizen should the passport needs to be valid for six months for international travel from U.S to india?
Thanks

You are correct, the H4 approval notice is good enough and that has the I-94. I have got it done recently for H1 as well as for H4

You are getting your passport renewed anyway, the other issues do not matter. However, the passport is valid for travel to India

Hope this helps, else drop into the forum

Thanks Mr.Subramanya.

I have another question. I am living in New York state. I am going to Texas for couple weeks vacation. Can I go to Houston Indian Consulate in person and apply for renewing my daughter's passport? All approval notices will have New York address. Will that be an issue? Do they ask for any proof of residency for renewing the passport?

Thanks

Hi Valli,

apply for your daughter's PP in Ny and enjoy our vacation. By the time you are back the passport will als be back. Send it only by US Post Office as the Indian consulate does not accept Fedex/UPS etc.

The Indian consulate will return the new and old passports by USPS. Even if you are not home the Post Office will retain it till you come and collect. They leave a note on your tel. # and in your mail box.

Hope this helps. Else, visit the forum but use the forum for US Visa related issues
