Urgent - HELP Am I in the clear? F1 -> H1 Status question

As I mentioned earlier, I'm goign for a
stamping. However, while interviewing fo the Canadian visa the officer brought up a scary thought. My first H1 was filed in 2004. I graduated in May 2003, and had an OPT that was valid through 07/30/04. Through sheer incompetence of my previous employer and lawyer, they completely bungled the processing. My h1 got approved, but shows a Receipt date of 09/30/04. If I'm correct the Opt has a 60 day grace period after expiry. Adding 60 days to July 30th (Or is it 31st, since the opt was
valid till the 30th), gives us September 28th/29th. I'm in a bind now,and I'm unsure what to do. I do not want to chance being denied re-entry. I have changed companies and have a different H1 approval and new I94 as well, but havent left the country since graduation

I do not know about the grace period; but I think the opt card last date is the last date of the authorized stay.
in any event, please consult an experienced attorney before leaving the country.
