URGENT: H4 stamping in India. any problems?

Hi all,

I would really appreciate a reply to this mail. I am an H1 holder trying to get H4 stamped for my spouse.

1. I heard that the spouse needs to change her last name or include her husband's name in the passport before stamping. Is that true?

2.How long is the processing time (Chennai)

(1) Apparently only Mumbai requires/recommends changing wife's surname. Chennai does not. But it may not be a bad idea to get the spouse's name endorsed in each other's passports.

(2) You tell me when you return. When are you/your wife going for stamping.

Everyone wants to know all details before stamping, but they seem to disappear after the stamping!

I'm planning to apply for H4 restamping for my wife in
Mumbai consulate next week.

Do you know how long it takes in Mumbai to endorse
my name in wife's passport ?

I'm not travelling with my wife. I have already got my
restamping done here in US. Is it necessary that my
passport should also be endorsed with my wife's name ?
