Folks,

I went to the American Embassy in Delhi for renewing H1B visa. I was once arrested though not convicted of Petit Larceny 5 years back. The case was null processed in court.
I wrote 'Yes' in the D-156 under column that says were you arrested.
Now they have almost rejected my visa in India and have done fingerprinting in India and have told me they shall get a background check by sending message to the State department and it might take 2 months to get a result back.
My idiocity by telling the truth has hurt me big time, it seems. some Qs:
1. Has any one of you experienced such a thing here? Any ideas how much time it might take? My wife shall be there all alone and I might loose a job also.
2. What was the verdict in your case?
3. I am very concerned that this might be end of my career in US (for petit larceny!!)
4. Can I consult and lawyer and expedite this processing?

Please Please respond back immediately....

I know about a similar kind of case H1 and H4 were denied the person contacted the NYC lawyer Cyrus Mehta ( www.cyrusmehta.com) and lawyer sent email to Consulate and then sent some papers to Consulate. FYI Cyrus Mehta has also office in Bombay and they followed up with consulate and person was able to get H1 visa stamp. It took him 1 month to get Visa stamp. You must contact Rajiv Khanna (our host) or Sheela Murthy or Cyrus Mehta
