I'm in India at this moment. I tried to get priority appointment (Returning US worker) at www.vfs-usa.co.in and also emailed US Embassy at ceamb@state.gov I have not been successful to get early appointment before I fly back to US (Sep 18). They both have been throwing me back and forth between them. Please advise me if you been through similar sitiuation.

Mumbai dates are currently sometime in Feb. Last night (11 pm EST) for half an hour they went between mid-Oct and December (I was looking for Dec) - this mornign back to Feb. so keep checking to see if dates are released throughout the day.
Since you are a returning US worker, you can apply at any of their locations - del, mum, cal, che - so if dates in your timeframe are available there, you may want to fly there and get it done.
