Urgent!! F1 Renewal

I recently appeared for visa renewal interview for my F1. I was told
that my case needs additional processing time and may take
over 2 to 4 weeks. I have a valid US visa which expires in November of
this year.

Can I still travel to the US to be there in time before the start of my fall
classes? or will there be a travel hold on my visa?

Please advice.

F1 renewal

You cannot travel till the outcome of your visa renewal becomes known. If your visa is rejected, your previous visa automatically gets cancelled.
 
Can anything be done to speed up the process? Can I ask my advisor to talk to some one in the state department? or something else to that effect.

How about a letter from him to the consulate about my research, will that help?
