Urgent - changing jobs, H-1B expires in 1 year

My firm applied for GC for me in Dec 2004. My H-1B expires Feb 2006.

I want to change jobs and I have two questions:

1) If I change jobs and new firm applies for GC immediately...I will not be late since H-1 expires in Feb 2006?

2) Is it better if new firm applies through PERM?

Will appreciate your thoughts.

Feb starts tomorrow, I do not know up to what date your H1 is valid. In my opinion, you will be cutting close if you are thinking of getting 7th year based on this new LC. BTW, you can switch jobs and still use your previous employer's LC filing proof to get your 7th year ext.

Regarding PERM, I have no idea.
