Urgent---Change of Employer while H1 is under process

My H1 expired in the month of october,2002 and my employer has filed for the extension of H1B in the month of september. Now,I got a better offer.
The new company want me to join them immediately.
what are the consequences if I move to this new company(without a valid H1).Is there a way I can start working for the new employer? I would appreciate if you can respond at the earliest.

File for H1 transfer to company C using company B's H1 receipt. After INS receives your application you can start working for company C, make sure company C takes care of all paper work and expenses ...

yes. visa is only used for travel purposes
