My father is scheduled to leave for China tomorrow and he went to the 485 interview today. Everything went fine and the officer says that the he will get his green card in mail in two weeks. He recommended that he should not go back to China tomorrow. The reason is that when he comes back with his Advanced Parole, he is still on non-immigration visa and that might cause trouble. Since his status in the system is permanent resident. They also took away his I-94. Anyone has similar experience? Thanks.

With a valid Advance Parole, he can use the AP to reenter* the US even if his green card is approved while he's outside the US. He wouldn't be using the nonimmigrant visa to enter the US, he would be using the AP.
*this is assuming he does not have a record of criminal activity or immigration violations (did he overstay before filing the I-485?) or other issues that would make him inadmissible.

Thank you all for your responses. This is the same I understood it, AP means immigration. Not sure why the officer said otherwise.
