Please see the article below with regards to possible review of DV-2012 matter. What is going on?

DV Lottery 2012 lawyer action (part 3) Office Inspector General LAUNCH INVESTIGATION US DoS

"OIG to Launch Investigation of DV-2012; Wall Street Journal Article
Posted on June 6, 2011 by admin
You may recall that on May 25, 2011, we requested that the Office of Inspector General at the Department of State launch an investigation into the invalidation of the DV-2012 results. We have now received a reply from the General Counsel within the Office of Inspector General at the Department of State:

Mr. White:

Deputy Inspector General Geisel asked me to reply to your letter to him, dated May 25, 2011. Thank you for your letter and your interest in this matter. The Department has asked the Office of Inspector General to review the Diversity Visa Lottery matter and we have agreed to do so.

Sincerely,

Erich O. Hart

Erich O. Hart
General Counsel
Office of Inspector General
Department of State

While no additional details were provided, one can surmise that this is an encouraging sign. Nevertheless, this should in no way detract from our resolve to proceed with our lawsuit; in fact, the timing of the OIG letter – 24 hours after my post on the need for litigation – appears more than coincidental.

We should of course hope for the best – a quick, prompt settlement that will reinstate the selection of the 22,000 winners – but prepare for the worst.

Miriam Jordan at the Wall Street Journal was kind enough to write an article on the invalidation travesty and OIG’s initiation of the investigation. Here is the link:

We will be posting an FAQ about the litigation within 24 hours.

Sigh, this lottery will be abolished soon and this fiasco will only help.

"Critics say the program poses security risks, lures uneducated immigrants and enables individuals with no connection to the U.S. to get into the country more quickly than those sponsored by relatives and employers. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R., Va.) has introduced legislation to abolish it.

Results of a new draw are expected around July 15, according to the State Department"

Yup, 'reviewing' this situation could mean anything (including with a view of cancellation).

What's going on? Who knows. They might even cancel the DV lottery overall to what has happened. But I highly doubt it and I highly doubt the 22k winners will get the chance for their visa. Chances are real slim there, just be patient and wait until 15th of July.

Anyway does the DV lottery really matter that much? Chances of you winning are going to be 1%.

Nope, the DV lottery doesn't really matter that much to me. It's free to participate. Nevertheless, a chance is a chance, no matter how small the percentage maybe.

Don't be surprised if DV-2012 is the last. Those petitioners have truly demonstrated desparate 'immigrant intent'. Congress may say that they don't need this kind of trouble thus shut this lottery down. The economy is bad anyway.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R., Va.) has introduced legislation to abolish it.
This guy is totally stupid. He had several bill to stop the DV lottery and knowbody was interested in his shit.

Guys this is the 21st century. We have activists, lobby groups and "the people " themselves will always question authority.People even have protests to protect animal rights. When things like this computer error happen you are bound to hear noises and protests. Its so unfortunate but this was bound to happen . Guys this is no ones fault dont blame the people making noises and suing, times have changed and the people too.I hope they dont end the DV program, but If DOS ends this wonderful program too bad .

Cancel what?

Do you know how many millon dollars US govt generate each year from dv lottery? Do you know how many workers in the KCC center? Canceling dv lottery is losing money and puting people out of work. Us economy equals immigrant.

For the investigation, i think they will reconsider the initial 22,000 winners. it is a wise decision. We only noticed this error due to status check online, with it, poeple were able to see their selection quickly, during the era of letters and paper application forms, no body would have noticed it. Of course, you have to wait to see a letter in your mail box to know if you were selected and such letter may never arrive. So am pretty sure such error occurred in the past and went un-noticed.

See comment below made by the lawyer and piggy back by one of the ex-winners:

With reference to the FAQs, for question 13 you said the following:

“by filing the DS-230/DSP-117 with the Kentucky Consular Center, all applicants – litigants or not – have expressed an intent to immigrate to the United States. This could adversely impact future visitor or student visa applications to a US consulate abroad because of the necessity of proving a non-immigrant intent. ”

Once the DV-2012 results were announced, the winners were advised to quickly fill in and dispatch the above mentioned forms. In so doing, DOS made them officially announce their intention to immigrate to the US. By subsequently voiding the results, they in effect also disqualified them from obtainining non-immigrant visas.

This is absolutely unacceptable from a legal and a moral standpoint. In this respect, DOS has been careless to the point of irresponsibility to say the least

The law is higher than DoS. Even if "DOS has been careless to the point of irresponsibility", they are still obligated to follow though on the law and not a mistake/error by a computer.
