Upcoming Interview and a few problems

Hello All!
First of all, let me say that I am really thankful for the existence of this forum. What a great resource! Thank you all for sharing your experiences and advice.

Here comes my problem:
My naturalization interview is coming up on 5/4/2009 (DO Kansas City, MO). So far, everything went really smooth, I think I have a pretty straight forward case. But now that I try to prepare for the interview, I run into a few problems:

1) State ID
I don't have a drivers liscense, and my state id expired in May 2008. I never bothered to renew it. I realize that I need it for my interview to prove that I really live where I claim to live. I went to the local DMV on 3/31 to apply for a new state ID just to find out that it takes 6 to 8 weeks for non-citizens to receive a new state id. So most likely, it will not arrive before my interview on 5/4. The DMV did give me a receipt that shows that I applied for a new state id, but somehow I doubt that that will be sufficient. What else should I bring to prove my residency?

2) My Green Card will expire on 5/27/2009. So it will still be valid for the interview, but not for the Oath Ceremony. I know about the USCIS regulations that say that you still have to file the I-90 if you apply for naturalization less than 6 months before GC expiration date. I heard different opinions on this so far from people in other forums. Some advised to just ask the IO during the interview about it. What do you guys think?

3) I did file my 2008 taxes, and owe money. I already send the check to pay the taxes owed completely off. But how can I prove that? I will not be able to get a tax transcript for 2008 before the interview. I wonder if I should just bring a statement from my bank showing that the IRs cashed the check that I wrote them???

I am really thankful for any advise!!!

:)

did you make a payment to the IRS via a personal check? if you did then you have the carbon copy of the check you worte to the IRS and that proves you paid them, or like you say get a statement from your bank that shows the paid ammount (just in case they question this matter )

However the issue of your state ID is more of a concern ( at least in my opinion ) because you will most likely be asked for it, and I am not sure how they will handle it if it is expired. Maybe the gurus can help with this one?

I wish you good luck in your interview :-)

Bring utility bills, mortgage/rental statements to prove residency.

Unless you plan to travel outside the country betwen interview and oath, I wouldn't worry about renewing GC since your LPR status still remains valid.

Don't worry about current tax year as you have just filed. USCIS is concerned if you owe taxes from past returns and still haven't paid.

You took a ton of weight of me, Bobsmyth!!! Thank you so much for your reply! I was already concerned that I might have to re-schedule the interview mainly because I don't have the state id at the moment.

Thank you so much! I will give you guys an update after my interview. :D

You can still request your 2008 transcript from the IRS, I did the same last week and I got it a few days ago. You should have no problem ordering them just to be safe.

Good luck.
