I used to worry about my applicaiton for PR not being processed for a long time, like most folks on this board. Now the circumstances have changed:I'm getting married in a few weeks and plan to change my legal name. I have an NPT interview on 04/25/06. My question is: is there any way to delay I-485 processing after this interview till about mid-July - by then I should have on hands all the documents showing name change. Besides, my present last name, which consists of just 9 letters had been misspelled on 5 out 8 documents issued to me by the INS, two times - beyond recognition. (When I was applying for EAD in early 2000, I made a copy of a card with my name misspelled and wrote the correct spelling in HUGE letters next to it, underlined it and put "correct" next to the actual spelling and it worked!
) So, chances are that my current last name will be mutilated again whereas my new last name will be just 6 letters long and therefore less likely to be misspelled. I also hope to save $260.- ($190.- basic fee + $70.- fingerprinting fee) which the INS charges for the replacement card in the event of the name change. After all, my case had been stuck for such a long time that another couple of months will not make any difference, especially taking into consideraion that very soon I will become a legal spouse of the USC.
