Unusual Question about Citizenship via Parents/Grandparent

Hi guys,
I'm having a little bit of trouble trying to work out whether I'm eligible to apply for citizenship in the US so I was hoping you could help me out. My grandfather was American born in Philadelphia in 1923 and moved across to the UK sometime in the 1940s, we're pretty sure around '43/'44.

He then stayed in the UK for the rest of his life and had my mother in 1963. As far as I know from what I've read on the internet he should have automatically passed on American citizenship to my mother as per:

Rules for children accquiring citizenship when born abroad:

Between 12/24/1952 and 11/13/1986

If one parent is a U.S. citizen, the U.S. citizen parent must have resided in the U.S. for 10 years, at least 5 of which were after age 14.

Which we're pretty sure he did. Now here's where the story gets a bit complicated, around 2003 my mother was in the process of sorting out our American citizenship (as she didn't know about the law I've just posted which seems to suggest she was already a US citizen by birth). Unfortunately she died before she finished it.

I've read that it's possible to naturalise via a grandparent even if your parent wasn't a citizen but that you have to be under 18 to do this. Unfortunately I'm now 22 so that rules out that option for me but would I be able to qualify in some way through my mother due to her unwitting knowledge of having already had American citizenship or is there some kind of loophole for me to avoid the 18 rule as my guardian died before I was 18 and thus never managed to finish the application.

Any help would be much appreciated as it's been my dream for a while to move to America after what my grandfather had told me about his time there and this would make the process a whole lot easier rather than the almost impossible option of going via work/visa.

Thanks for your time.

What you have read about is for minors to acquire citizenship through a USC parent using a USC grandparent's physical residency requirement.

Unfortunately, no.
