until GC is approved or at the time of a local interview or while responding to an employment RFE, you need to show proof of salary. Otherwise, while on EAD , not getting a salary does not mean loss of status.
I started the 485 only three months back in VSC, so If I take unpaid time off for two-three months and then later start getting paid again, that would not cause any problem, because I do not expect any interview before another 6 months.
Another question: is it legal from the employer's point of view to let a person take unpaid time off while on EAD?
