Unpaid sick leave during J1 waiver

Hi,
My wife had to take 1 week sick leave which was unpaid.

how would this be accounted in J1 waiver ?

can she do 1 week overtime to make up for it ?
OR
she has to file 1-week extension after the 3 year period is over ,which is painful?

she is going to have to file an extention to make up for it,most times though the visa expiration usually a mnth or two earlier than the j1 expiration so she would have needed an extention anyway

it would be interesting to know if anyone has consulted a lawyer this isuue of unpaid sick or FMLA during NIW, what are the legal aspects , esp, if its a short duration like one or two weeks,

should not be a problem, as long as it is with employer's permission, and your employer isn't hell bent on hurting you.
