Hi,
I had H1 visa, 2-3 years back sponsored by a consulting company. But my company never found me any job. Company never asked me to go for any interview. I was very new at that time in US so I did not realize the consequence of being unemployed on H1 visa. I kept calling my company every week and every week they kept saying that they would find me a placement but they never did. They never found any client company for me. They never paid me a dime. They, however, kept telling me that I don’t have to worry since my I94 was valid.
I did not know that what company was doing was putting me in a risk of illegal status.
However, luckily I was able to use 245(i) and pay a 1000 $ to get my green card as a dependent of my husband.
Since the company put me through hell and ruined my career (I could not even apply to other company as INS could find out about my violation of status), I wanted to find out if I can sue the company for lost wages, the wages they should have paid me as an H1 employee.
I really don’t care about the money but I don’t want the company to put others in the situation they put me in.
