United Nations and others ... filing and attorney fees deductible?

Haven't been here for a while. I have a couple of questions

1. UnitedNations (or anybody else in the know) can you tell me if filing fees & attorney fees are tax deductible. Needed NIW to stay in country as H1-B was expiring. I paid for everything myself.

2. Are there any issues to changing jobs shortly after GC received. NIW was self petitioned. Apart from change of address do you have to notify USCIS of job change?

Thanks

PS It feels good to look at the forum again with the security of the GC behind me.

1. An accountant once told me no...but then again people deduct all kinds of crazy things they are not supposed to.

2. Shouldn't be. Self petitioned NIW is not dependant on a job offer.

I think there's a provision in the tax code which says that legal expenses related to keeping a job are tax-deductible. I think you can argue that it applies to getting a GC. It would work if you're going H-1 to GC without changing employer. On the other hand personal legal expenses can't be deducted. I'm also certain that it requires an itemized filing, which is not always a good idea accounting-wise.
