unexpired visa in an expired passport

My father has a 10 year B visa (expires in a 2010), but his passport has now expired. Is is ok to travel with a valid visa stamp in the expired passport, or do we need to have the consulate obtain a new stamp from the consulate....

He needs to carry his old expired passport containing the valid visa along with a new valid passport. He does not need a new visa.
