Unemployment benefits while on EAD?

I was on a H1B in Illinois till last April.
Lost my job, moved to New York and got a F1 (student) visa in June.
Married a USC (US Citizen) in November.
Got my EAD in January.
GC interview next week.

Can I file for unemployment benefits? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks!

It is unlikely that you could receive unemployment benefits after such a long time and you would need to be in IL to file and be actively looking for work.

I am pretty sure you are out of luck. Besides, you are now a student. Right?

I'm not sure how the residency business works - if one moves one can generally claim against the old state, or claim against the new state which will bill the old state. It's not as cut and dried as your statement.

But the length of time since the layoff would be a problem, most likely. However, it still doesn't hurt to ask.
