This is my situation:

I got my H1-b extended for another 3 years. Shortly after that I got laid off. Shortly after that I got married for my fiance who is an U.S. Citizen.

Now I received a job offer for a very high tech manager position that also requires travelling outside the U.S.

What's the best way to go about this so I have a legal work permit to take the job.

It's been about 5 weeks since the day I got laid off.

do a mail in H1B transfer with premium processing immediately - with next 2 days. you will need to show a recent pay stub from the former job. do not delay!
you should then have your new h1b with 2 weeks. then you can apply for GC via your spouse.

That could be a waste of $1000. If he's married to a US citizen and has not overstayed an I-94 he just files the I-130/I-485/I-131 and I-765. The EAD lets him take the job; the I-131 lets him travel.

The other option is to let the firm file the H-1 which will be significantly more expensive, but faster.

How long?

I'm sure this has been answered before but if this is taking place in Los Angeles what would be the expected wait for the work permit here?
