UK Fulbright teacher exchange J1 waiver question

Hello and thanks,

Here's my question. My girlfriend in the UK just completed a fulbright teacher exchange in the USA this past July, and is now subject to the 2 year HRR. What is the best way for her to get a J1 waiver in this situation? Would a "No Objection" appeal work? All the USA and UK embassies and agencies just keep forwarding our emails around with no one actually helping. :(

Thanks for any advice of help

Thanks Nemu for the advice. In checking out some of the links and forums on Fulbright, many of them talk about "Fulbright Scholars". Is this the same situation as the Fulbright teacher exchange program?

boston123 - I got my waiver based on no-objection, I was a Fulbright exchange student. What you are thinking about is probably the fact that not all countries will issue no-objection to Fulbright participants. So, check with your country's consulate first. If they issue no-objection, then you may try to get a waiver. The letter probably has little influence, but as I said, there are people who went the no-objection way and received their waivers.

I am not sure if teacher/student has any difference. Probably, yes, but the key is to prove that your staying in the US outwait the goals of the original Fulbright program.

In my opinion, you have to write a very convincing letter which Fulbright board reads. The DoS will forward your application to Fulbright commission, and I think DoS always goes with what Fulbright recommends.

Again, read the thread.. .see if you find anything helpful. I think I posted even more info on what I said in my statement here

Thank you so much nemu, finding information on this is so difficult, but I feel that I have a much better idea about what to do from here. :)
