Came here about a year ago under the Uniting for Ukraine program. This whole post is more of a discussion and speculation about the future of the people that were paroled into the States. I'm not the biggest expert at US immigration (as you figured lol), but I did quite a bit of research over the years and I'm concerned about the US general elections. I don't have a political preference as I think I'm not entitled to one (I'm not a US citizen, nor a green card holder, I don't know much about the politics in here so I just generally feel like I can't make any conclusions about who is better if I don't understand even the basics and just don't follow all the news and accomplishments), but it seems like Trump has had a very strict and severe immigration policy. If we are gonna believe his claims about his next term plans, it's gonna be even worse. I'm not as worried since I'm a legal alien, but he did say in one of the interviews a while ago that he will disband all the paroles, including Uniting for Ukraine:
Trump has vowed to end Biden "parole" programs that have allowed hundreds of thousands of migrants with U.S. sponsors to enter the U.S. and obtain work permits, including Ukrainians and Afghans. He has called Biden's programs an "outrageous abuse of parole authority."
I highly doubt that if Trump won the election, he would have deported any parolees. This I'm not worried about, even though I wouldn't be very surprised if he will cut work permits or whatever, which is basically deportation unless you will be thrilled to work for some black market for illegals. What I'm worried about is the future of it, because we all know that for an average person it's really hard to qualify for literally any immigrant category or like any visa in the first place unless you are talented/have a spouse here and so on. Especially if you are someone like me who moved to the US completely (almost) alone at 17 years old with almost no money and only a high school diploma. Like I qualify for nothing, so in 1 year after my program expiration, my work permit will expire which is basically same as deportation at some point. I really don't know what Trump would do, I really don't believe he would issue TPS or continue TPS for Ukrainians that are already here, but it's not like it's completely impossible. I also do believe that it depends on the war conditions, because if he actually manages to end the war, it's gonna be more likely that no further TPS will be issued under his administration. Of course Ukraine will need an enormous amount of time and efforts to rebuild the already broken economy and there is gonna be even a bigger disaster in the economy, but I just really have no idea what to expect from Trump. Please don't mention anything about the spouse visa, I just really suck at relationships and it's totally impossible for me to do that short term. Of course it's not completely unlikely that I will just genuinely fall for someone and here goes my easy green card, but I'm being realistic and not relying on unlikely events. I know Kamala gets a lot of support but I see and hear enormous amount of Trump support even tho I live in a democratic state that has been democratic for ages.
