U.S. Payroll while out of country to reset H-1

I am working for a multinational company in the U.S. and my H-1 is reaching 6 year limit by Jan 2007. My company is aware of the issue and is willing to put me on international assignment for one year and then bring me back on fresh H-1. My question is whether I can continue to be on U.S. payroll and receive salary in U.S. bank account during the 1 year when I am physically abroad. The way international assignment works in my company, I would continue to receive U.S. salary and be on U.S. payroll while working abroad. Would this meet the 1 year abroad requirement needed to reset my H-1 or do I need to go abroad as a local hire in the foreign country and receive salary in local currency?

Thanks.

I hope it depends to your company and if you are out for one year it will reset you H1B. If you are outside US you will also get tax benifit for US and if you are going to some country where tax are low you may be benifited.
The best person to talk to is att and HR on this.

My situation is similar but not exact. I might have to leave the country for a couple of months to stop my H1 clock and then recoup that period once I come back. Just trying to get I-140 approved before I run out of time on H1.
I am not sure if I am legally allowed to work abrod while geting paid in the US, especially when we are trying to use that period to reset/recoup.
Could you please confirm if you got any further information on this.

Sixyrs - I still have not received any definitive answer to my query. Will let you know when I do.

Does anyone have any insight into the issue of being paid in the U.S. while abroad to reset H-1? I am sure there must be people who have enountered this situation.

No problem , There is nothing stopping you from getting paid in $$'s while back home...in india.

IRS and INS are two different beasts.

Cheers

Wacky,
I had the same question and just came to knpw today that IRS and INS do not get into each other. So as far as you pay taxes for what you have earned, you should be god.

Anjan,
Thank you for confirming that.
