Two visas in process

Hi,
Currently i am in OPT(F1 visa) which expires on June 24,2004.My Contractor is going to file my H1 for Oct,2004.
Meanwhile to maintain the status i will be moving to dependent visa(L2) which my husband's company is processing.But the thing is they are telling me it will take 4-5 months(although i can be here legally) to get my L2 processed which by the time i get L2 my H1 will also be done.My question is Is it legal to process 2 visas at same time & to get 2 visas almost at same time.

I think it is legal. You can apply for more than 1 visa at any time. I have done it. I had a TN visa renewal mailed in and while that was being processed, I applied for a H1B visa on April 16th 2004 and was approved in 2 weeks through premium processing.

However, you can only remain / come into the country on one visa and you can only hold one status. ie. I cannot hold the status of TN (trade Nafta) and H1-B status at the same time in the USA. That is for sure.
