I’m a Green Card holder and entered the U.S. three years ago through the Diversity Visa Lottery. I have two questions about tax filing:
- I’m self-employed and run a legally registered business in Virginia. I’ve paid my taxes for 2023 and 2024 on time. However, this year, my business isn’t doing as well. I can still pay my taxes, but not in one lump sum. My usual tax amount is $9,000—I can pay $7,000 in April, but I’d like to spread the remaining amount over two months. Will this affect my eligibility for citizenship when I apply in two years?
- My wife started an online digital product company (an LLC) six months ago, but she hasn’t launched it yet. She doesn’t have a website, a business bank account, or any transactions. However, the company is legally registered and has complied with the BOIR.org transparency requirements on time. Does she still need to file taxes for the business?
Best,
