Reason for travel on the rentry

u can use reentry permit as many times as you want as long as it is valid...

Another thing re entry permits is for trips more than a year....there is nowhere where uscis states that u need rep for more than 6 months...
uscis says rep is needed for trips more than 1 yr as rep doesnot safegaurd your continuous residency but safegaurds your residency status...

I was thinking of applying for the reentry as a precautionary measure....just in case my trip extends beyond the 6 month period (of course I would break the continuity in residence in that case). Also, I have a question about the reason for travel. Recently, I have been diagnosed with a physical condition which requires a normal surgical procedure. However, I feel that I would get more post-op care if I can get it done in India (literally no family for me here in the US).

I am planning to put "Medical (Surgical procedure)" as the reason for the trip. I would be able to document the trip with letters from the hospital. Do you know if putting that as the reason would help in future if apply for Cship?

Any suggestions would help.

A re-entry permit is not required for trips shorter than a year because your permanent residency (GC) is not considered abandoned until you have been absent for longer than a year.
