Please read all posts of this thread.

When you will go by road, dont tell that you are going to apply for PR. Just tell them I am going to visit my friends. If they ask the location, tell them someplace where any of your friends live. It might not harm that you are goint to apply for PR, but to be on the safe side just tell them you are going to visit friend.

Regarding your VISA stamp

YOU DO NOT NEED VALID VISA STAMP IN YOUR PASSPORT TO COME BACK TO USA FROM CANADA STAYING LESS THAN 30 DAYS IF YOU ARE STILL IN H1B.

This is called automatic revalidation rule. Take your H1B approval, employer letter, recent pay stubs. Remember, you need Canadian VISA to enter Canada. When you will go, you dont have to hand over your white I-94 what you got when you last in the USA, if they ask, tell them you need that to come back. When you will back, just show them your H1b approval notice, and that white I-94 card. You will be fine. They are supposed to let you in by law.
I know personally people travelled like that.

I personally dont have a even expired H1B visa stamp. I just have my F1 VISA, I got converted from F1 to H1. I never had H1b visa. Still I am eligible to enter based on my valid H1b approval notice. Because, that AUTOMATIC REVALIDATION RULE can be enjoyed by expired visa holder of same category or diffrent category.

Hope this helps.

Folks if you had similiar experiences about travelling Canada, or if you will have this experience in future, please post here. Remeber we are talking about coming back from Canada to US without US VISA stamp by enjoying AUTOMATIC REVALIDATION RULE.

Good Luck!!!!

Brother, I feel very sorry for you. If you just take the 551 Stamp in your passport by walking in local INS, then travelled to Canada you would be fine. That was the only mistake you made.

However, I think there was option, at least you could try. Like, you could contact some good immigration attorney and ask them to help you out. I know same thing happened to one of the INDIAN person who had 551 stamp in passport, but expired. He travelled to INDIA, and could not come back because it has expired. He is very senior professor of one of the universities at Minnesota. However, somehow by contacting lawer he managed it. I dont have update about him.

For your case, time has gone already. I beleived you have tried a lot. Dont worry brother. There are lot of worse things happen in life that you could not put up with, but nothing is to do. Just bear with it and utilize your present time. Canada is good country too. Keep look for job, you will get it one day for sure. Life goes by!!!!

Thanks very much Sahin. I appreciate your help. Whan I will be going into Canada, I don't think that US border officials will ask me anything. But while coming back, if I say that I went for visiting my friends, and they see my passport which has a stamp for the Canada Immigration visa, wouldn't they be suspicious? I do not want to take any risk right now, thats' why exploring all possibilities...

Thanks again for all your help.

I was considering the possibility of going to India for H1-B stamping, and then landing into Canada. Has anyone done this after 28 June, when the PR visa is stamped in the passport itself. Could the US Consulate in India deny me the visa on grounds that I have Canadian PR? Please help me...
