Tried to Reach Baltimore INS (Local Office) - Please Comment

Hi Folks,
   I tried to reach baltimore office. Called 410 9622338. Was redirected to 8003755283. The person who came on the phone was very friendly. However he said it could take 14 months to schedule an interview and calling local office to find out the status was not an option.
  Let me know what you folks think.

yap, thats the 800 no i called...and they said the same thing; that the estimated time for processing these kind of applications is currently at 14 mths and that they will not be able to comment on status of any application until after 14 mths !!!!
i did not think that made any sense at all....but there is no other way out of this, i guess.
