Travelling without AP being approved

Friends, I need to travel my home country due to some family issue. But I have not got my AP approval yet(AP ND - Sept 12). Is it safe to travel without AP being approved. I can wait in my home country till my AP/GC get approved, then my friend here can send the papers back to me and then I am planning to come again. Is it legal? Any help would be appreciated!!!
If already some thread out there for this, pls post the link.

it is not safe to leave the US w/o AP approval. It's considered your immigration petition is abondaned if you do that.
If you still have valid non-immigrant status by maintaining H1 or L1(meaning you have never used AP to reenter nor used EAD to work), you can use it to reenter.
