Travelling while on H-1

Hi,
What documents do you have to carry with you while travelling within the US while on a H-1 visa? My problem is that I have sent my passport to the State Department for revalidation of H visa.
If I carry copies of all pages of my passport with me when I travel within the US - would that be sufficient ?
Do you have to carry stuff like H-1 approval papers or any other documents?
