Travelling when H4 is in the process!

Hi, My wife and I have applied for H-1 and H-4 simultaneously in Texas and my wife plans to travel 5 months into the process of H-4 assuming that the H4 will be thru by then (ideally 3-4 months as stated in the website). But seems it might take longer now (its already 4 months up). As the tickets are booked, is it Ok to travel to India before we receive the H4 in hand here and I mail it to her in India when I get it. We are on F1 and F2 (OPT)status and will not be violating stay here as we are in status. My worry is that would it be like abandoning H4. Is there any other option other than premium processing?Please help...

travel during change of status is abandonment. Alternatively, your spouse can wait for your H1 approval and use that to get the H4 stamp at home country US consulate and enter US in h4
