Dear Sir,

My brother in USA california petioned me and I have been issued immigrant visa after an interview at the US consulate.During visa interview at consulate we told the consular officer we are going to California. In the Visa packet they mentioned destination as California. Now there is some change in our plan.We would like to go to Philadelphia now.Is it possible to go to Philadelphia directly?Or should I enter USA at the port of entry(California) mentioned in the visa packet? If yes, Can I proceed to philadelphia immediately after immigration clearance at california. In the present scenario where should I apply for my social security?from at California or at Philadelphia? Is there any immigration law involved here?

You have an immigrant visa for the US. You can land anywhere you want. You apply for SSN where you intend to settle down.

If you intend to live at a different address than the one you stated on your immigrant visa application, you'll need to file an AR-11 change of address. In fact, you need to do this every time you move anyway.

You can apply for a SS Card wherever you intend to live. Did you give an address in CA to the IO?

If you did, follow boatbod's advice.

P.S. No need for the "Dear Sir", a simple Hello Guys will suffice. You are "Coming to America" now :)
