travelling to Mexico on 551 stamp

Hello:

I recently received the 551 stamp(485 approval)
 in my passport. Havenot received the actual card yet.
I am planning a trip to Mexico. Do I need a Mexican visa,
or does the airline accept this stamp as equivalent to
green card.

As far as Mexican consulate is concerned, their website
says if you are a permanent resident, you just need a tourist
card and do not need the actual visa. They dont mention
anything about the 551 stamp.

I would appreciate if anyone who travelled with the stampcan tell
me if the airline based in US gave them any trouble....
 
Ask the airline...

And most of them do not give any trouble if you can show something as a valid visa. It will be the mexican immigration officer who will cause trouble if any. But with so many mexicans having green card that officer would know about I551 I think.
