Travelling to Canada by Car Rules

Hi:

Hopefully someone recently went on a car to Canada.

I got my citizenship certificate but didn't apply for the passport yet.
I need to or will be travelling to Canada by car on July 21.
I am planning to send in my passport application today or tomorrow and then use the printout of application in process" as proof of US citizenship to get back into US.
My question, should I just postpone sending in the application and use the Naturalization Certificate to get back or will the printout be just as safe ? I know they have "relaxed" the rules regarding air travel where you can now show printout, but will that still apply to my case in travel by car ?

I couldn't find anywhere on travel.gov site rules regarding travelling to Canada by car, there were only rules regarding air travel. Am I correct assuming that you can get back to US by Nat. Certificate ? Did anyone travel within last week to Canada and back with Nat. Certificate ?

thanks

As a frequent traveler between the US and Canada, I can safely say that Canada will not give you a hard time. There is a 90% change that a verbal declaration by you that you are a US citizen will be sufficient. The US re-entry may be not be as smooth. You cannot be denied re-entry by law, but you may be given a hard talk about traveling with a passport. You may also be sent to secondary so that they can verify the authenticity of your naturalisation certificate.

canada trip by road... triple citizen

I am in a similar situation need to travel by road to canada but I am a recently approved green card holder, card in hand. I intend to travel with green card and also carry my nationality passport.

Is this doable? I heard that for Canada a plastic card is enough. Triple Citizen your thoughts please, based on your posting

Thanks

I drove to Canada with my GC and national passport with no problem. The GC was all I needed to return to the US.

The issue is the poster has his Naturalization Cert now, they no longer have their Green Card and have not gotten their US passport either. So bascially it's the question of the US immigration allowing them to re-enter with the Nat Cert document and drivers licence etc for proof of identity and the Nat Cert for citizenship.

One thing you might want to do is just try and get your passport expediated so you can get it very quickly. Also get your Social Security updated to prove you're a US citizen. This way if you don't get your passport and still have to leave right away, the Nat. Cert and possibly proof of your Social Security might help out a little bit.

I have heard someone that did use just their Nat. Cert and a photo ID and was allowed back in, just not sure how much hassle you might get though...

Someone I know did just that, tried to re-enter the US with her newly acquired naturalisation certificate. Entry was granted, but she had to go via secondary and pay $100 dollars. I believe that is the listed fine.
