Travelling on just GC+NP

Hi Everyone:

Has anyone ever entered the US with AS6 GC+ NP? I looked at the processing times and it seems forever to get a Reentry permit. As I am planning a visit to see my family in a neighboring country (Not COP), I was wondering if it is reasonable to travel on GC+NP, as my NP is valid.

Please share your ideas/ experiences. I have heard that you cannot travel both with RP and NP anyways. And, from many postings in this forum, people have said that most of the time IO at POE have asked about NP rather than RP or RTD.

Yes, IOs do often ask for NP. Many asylees aren't comfortable using their NPs. My mom did, because USCIS takes their own sweet time issuing RPs and RTDs, and she was oke. However, traveling to a country near your COP MAY raise questions, if not now, later. This is just a possibility, and not a certainty. By the way, it's normal to use RP and NP, but not RTD and NP.

Anyway, I think it's oke to use your GC and NP. If, during your citizenship interview, they ask you why you used your NP, just tell them you had to travel and could not wait for an RTD or RP.

I have entered the US 3 times with NP and GC of which 2 I went to my COP, and i was asked no questions whatsoever. My wife is AS6 also but from a different country, she used travel document, and she was always asked for her NP.

I am from Colombia, and my wife is from Venezuela.

I have heard of people using their NP + GC without a problem including those traveling to their COP. However, it might raise questions during citizenship interview. But if you are not traveling to COP you should be able to explain yourself. You should not renew your NP when it expires though.

That is true. IO officers will ask you your national passport. National passport and greencard is perfect.....

But what if your national passport is about to expire and the green-card is AS6 category?
Is the RTD only the way out?

You should use your Travel Document + GC if you are an asylee. At least try. If you are using your National Passport you should have a good reason.
